Many years ago I saw a modern zebras painting. The intermix of black and white played tricks on my eyes as I tried to count the number of zebras in the painting. I was fascinated by the fact that zebras are striped to protect themselves from prey. The painting fooled me. Nature has a way of selecting that which will survive.
I’ve never heard of anyone not liking zebras. They’re such unique creatures – they are 99% representative of the horse family, but with a circus coat. I love them.
I worked in oil, pastels, charcoal, acrylic and almost all mediums, but recently I’ve moved exclusively to acrylic. This painting is acrylic on canvas panel. I can blend like oils but allow for quicker drying times. Oils have more luster and richness, IMO, but acrylic is more fun and spontaneous.
